Young Living Thieves Essential Oil Blend Products

Thieves Young Living

Thieves. That’s a strange name for an essential oil, shouldn’t essential oils be named something like Lavender? Peppermint? Yet, for anyone who is remotely familiar with the range of Young Living oils, Thieves is one of THE most widely used oils in their product range.

Just how did the name come about and what IS this oil about?

Thieves® was created based on research about four thieves in France who protected themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. This proprietary blend was university tested and found to be highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health.*

If you’re not sure what the plague is, THE PLAGUE aka Black Death for the years of 1346 – 1353, wiped out 75 to 200 million people! It’s no wonder that Thieves is a bestseller in today’s world! There have been several pandemics of plagues but let’s not get nerdy here.

You can easily Google search a lot of information on Thieves.

Thieves contains Clove, Rosemary and other aromatics. Products from the Thieves range have a plant-based formula, and are all natural, organic, and safe to use around children and pets. Did you know that some dental products also contain extracts of clove oil? So there is some science behind essential oils.

Thieves is an all-natural, organic alternative to everyday household cleaning products. Not many might know but there is a range of toxic chemicals ranging from Ammonia and Lye in detergents, Hydrochloric Acid in toilet bowl cleaners to more complex ones like Perchloroethylene in carpet and furniture cleaners. According to the Toxicology Data Network, exposure to these harsh chemicals can lead to alarming health causes such as pulmonary edema, permanent blindness on contact and even damage to the liver and kidney.

I have previously written about essential oils, and Thieves is really one of my favourites. It’s so well loved worldwide that it’s really easy to find information on how to use it as an essential oil. I diffuse it a lot, especially when the kids are sick or coming down with something. If I feel under the weather, with a sore throat or the like, I might ingest a few drops periodically. Yes, the oils are so organic you can even ingest it, but I suggest to approach with caution as Thieves is quite a “hot” oil.

I was given the Thieves foaming hand soap to review, but actually I already have this at home. My kids love Thieves and they also love this hand soap, which is organic and kills germs as well as boosts immunity at the same time. And leaves their dirty hands clean and smelling lovely! It’s a win-win all around.

I was also given a bottle of Thieves Laundry Soap. Now this I have not tried before. I knew just what I needed to put it to the test – washing those old sports wear. You know those that are supposed to be dry quick and dunno what? But after a while they always end up with a musty smell? Yeah those. I dumped a load into my wash, and poured a half cap in for half a 9kg load of laundry. So in my case, I used just half a capful of the Thieves laundry soap for 4.5kg of laundry. I have already been using the Thieves household cleaner to soak those smelly boy clothes, or musty clothes before washing, and will sometimes add some of the household cleaner into the washing machine too. The Thieves Laundry Soap is also low suds, if you have a front washer like mine which apparently requires low suds.

I find the Thieves Laundry Soap great for clothes which might need a little de-stinking, you know like sports wear that is quick-dry but also quick-smell? The Laundry Soap didn’t leave a strong scent like I was hoping for, and we do find the clothes a bit “hard”, but that’s probably only because we are used to using fabric softener. I asked around and some of my friends who use the Thieves Laundry Soap don’t mind the “hardness” and never use fabric softener.

I think the Thieves Laundry Soap would also be good for when you need to sanitize everything – like when the kids come home from school and there has been a case of Hand Foot Mouth Disease. Horrors right??

  1. I was reading about the RC blend from Young Living that’s supposed to help with respiratory problems. But the website says do not use on young children. How
Do you use these essential oils on your little ones then?

    1. Hello! RC is one of my first go-to oils when the kids have the flu or cough; I will apply one to two drops to their chest and back. You can also drop it on a tissue and place near their face. I find when they or I have those uncontrollable coughs it helps a lot!!

      1. Hello! I see… thanks!! So there’s no need to dilute it with anything else? Just use it directly on their skin it’s fine?

      2. Well they say for babies you should dilute it, you could also test a small dot to see if the skin reacts to the oil? But for my kids (I think from 2YO) I just use directly without dilution 🙂
