I was invited to do a hair treatment at Bee Choo Origin Ladies and to be honest I hesitated because I’d not heard of them, and I was pregnant at the time. Then I saw my friends RaisingFaith and Kidsrsimple and they said it was pretty good. I was concerned about post partum hair loss and other hormonal changes, so after receiving assurance from them that the treatment is suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, I decided to give it a try.Bee Choo Origin Ladies at Pahang Street (located in Kampong Glam/Arab St area) and was surprised that at 1030 in the morning there were already 3-4 other ladies doing their treatment! They were pretty busy throughout the time I was there.
This is Bee Choo Ladies, so they only treat ladies here. Origin Ladies has a lovely girly ambiance, and is very cozy. And the staff working here are always very friendly!
We began by taking a look at my hair roots. I rarely do hair treatments because they tend to be really expensive and time consuming, so I was not surprised to see that my roots were oily. I think the condition has gotten better over the last few years after using oily hair products, prior to my visit.
Then there was a short but very good head and shoulder massage. Next we began the treatment. The treatment paste itself smells a little like those brown TCM herb paste they sometimes paste to your body, you know like if you hurt your ankle they might put the paste there and then wrap it up? At Bee Choo Origin Ladies they slather on their herbal paste treatment very carefully, then wrap your head up and let it steam for a while. Following that is a wash and a light blow dry. In all the treatment takes about 1.5-2 hours.
On my second visit, I was so surprised to see that the condition of my scalp had improved and remained so, because it was a 2 month period between visits. Of course I was very pleased with this. Bee Choo do suggest that you go twice a week in the beginning, but I was rather busy, being pregnant and having given birth (legit busy, right?) so I only managed to return after 2 months. I thought my scalp might be just as oily as my first visit, but turns out the scalp was pretty healthy scan also showed some good baby hair growth!
I mentioned that the treatment smells like TCM herbs and I find that right after the treatment the smell will be quite strong (which I don’t really mind) until the next day, although I have not asked anyone if they could smell my hair. After my first treatment I was still able to smell the herbal smell after each time I showered and washed my hair with my own shampoo, but the second time I did the treatment I decided to use the shampoo form Bee Choo, and I found the smell was much less.
I was also surprised at how affordable the treatment is, and I have actually returned on my own expense to do treatment again. If I have the time, I will definitely schedule another appointment, especially since I am slowly coming into the fourth month postpartum, and mummies, we all know that’s the horrible period where postpartum hair loss starts! If I do find the treatment helps with postpartum hair loss, I will definitely update this post to let you know!
Bee Choo Origin have several outlets islandwide, but only Origin Ladies is a ladies only salon. The Bee Choo treatment is all natural, has been effective for me, and best of all is very affordable. I also like how you can make your appointment online.
