Chinese New Year goodies

February 3, 2013January 15, 2014 Mummy EdLeave a comment

It’s been a while since I posted anything remotely related to home based activities for kids, mainly because I haven’t been doing much. Most of my time at home is spent carrying, entertaining, nursing baby, and breaking up fights. Some nights are rough so my preferred mode of entertainment is to bring the kids to… Continue reading Chinese New Year goodies

Bilingualism

April 20, 2012 Mummy Ed4 Comments

Some parents believe that children in Singapore should be spoken to and taught to speak exclusively in Chinese before they go to Primary school, and left to pick up English when they enter Primary 1. As someone who comes from an English speaking background, I find this a little unsettling because of a few reasons.… Continue reading Bilingualism

See inside your body

March 10, 2012March 10, 2012 Mummy Ed2 Comments

I’ve been looking for some materials on the human body for Mittens, and so far the books I had bought didn’t seem to capture his interest. A few days ago though, I scored this book at the Mothercare sale (of all places to buy a book right? I only bought books and briefs. That was… Continue reading See inside your body

Resources for home learning

March 7, 2012March 7, 2012 Mummy EdLeave a comment

It’s amazing just how much stuff you can find online – whether free or paid. Especially in terms of home learning resources, sometimes the amount of stuff to go through gives me a headache. I mean, search Montessori and you’ll probably get a gazillion pages which you’ll never be able to finish reading. I seriously… Continue reading Resources for home learning

Rainy day activities

March 1, 2012 Mummy EdLeave a comment

Recently I came across this post on microwave puffy paint, so I thought i’d try it with the boys. Combine flour with food colouring, “paint”, and microwave on high for 40-60 seconds. Unfortunately, it was a lot of work (mixing the flour and such) for not such interesting effects, probably because, in true Mittens style,… Continue reading Rainy day activities

Sick of being sick, tired of being tired.

February 28, 2012 Mummy EdLeave a comment

This is what it’s like in my household on a daily basis – the boys entertaining himself while I have my feet up, reading a nice novel. No, that’s SO NOT how it is. In fact the last few weeks have been filled with… Continue reading Sick of being sick, tired of being tired.

Jigsaw Puzzle Organisation

February 26, 2012 Mummy Ed2 Comments

At home we don’t have an extensive jigsaw puzzle collection, but I was really inspired by this post by Counting Coconuts on how she organises their puzzles. Check out the amount of puzzles they have! Cool right! Read more to see more details.

Spent the evening reminiscing our trip to Epernay and revelling in stories of history, the British Royal family and Sir WC, which for me, gives this already amazing champagne a certain je ne sais quoi.

In progress: going through all the winter clothing for 3 growing kids. This is why I prefer beach holidays 🙄😅
My @monsoonteasg stash arrived today! I have been a big fan of their teas for a while now, not just for the taste, but because I love the whole story behind this brand. Before I heard of them I didn't even know tea grew on trees (and not just those domesticated bushes)! My favourite is the Jungle Oolong, which farmers have to walk for four hours in order to reach the plants in the jungle to make this tea. Swipe to read more about these unique teas which are produced sustainably. . . You can purchase the festive sets, or the teas individually, from @monsoonteasg. They make interesting gifts, are produced in harmony with the environment, and have a positive social impact. What's there not to love? 🥰🍵 . . #notsponsored
Loving the bright and airy spaces at the new Khoo Teck Puat - National University Children's Medical Institute (NUHkids) building (what a mouthful).
Visited Children's Season at @acm_sg today, there is only a small section with 4 stations to visit, but it was enough for a quick look through the museum for the 7YO, and quiet enough for a baby to walk around. I will have to feedback to them that that bowl is far too high for most kids, especially since the images you're supposed to find are very small (even I had to look really closely!). I did like the Chinese Scholars hands on activities which includes using Chinese brushes, making a scroll, and using an inkstone to make Chinese ink 墨水。
